Can Miami Heat Win the 2012 NBA Title Without Chris Bosh?

On the heels of a resounding—if chippy—win over the Indiana Pacers, things are looking up for the Miami Heat. But, just as it would have been foolish to overreact to their Game 3 loss, it would be equally dumb to declare all problems fixed after their 115-83 Game 5 shellacking of Indiana.

LeBron James and Dwyane Wade are a formidable team unto themselves, but it's not enough to compete with either the Oklahoma City Thunder or San Antonio Spurs. Udonis Haslem has provided a decent, recent Chris Bosh facsimile, but he can hardly be depended on to continue hitting the mid-range shots he struggled with all season.

But the problem is less about what Bosh's backup provides and more about how there is no backup to that backup. Beyond Haslem, the Heat have no frontcourt floor spacers, with the exception of LeBron when he wants to play the four. That might cut it in the Eastern Conference finals, but so hinders a Heat offense that cannot compete with one of the Western offensive juggernauts.
