Diaw Slated to Earn $7 Million in 2016-17

ESPN's Marc Stein reported the news on Diaw, indicating the Spurs could've saved $4 million off next year's payroll. Instead the 34-year-old's salary for this coming season will become fully guaranteed on Thursday, per Stein.
Diaw would've only cost San Antonio $3 million in dead money, hence the aforementioned savings. According to Spotrac, the Spurs can waive him before July 15, 2017, without any dead money to avoid paying Diaw up to $7.5 million with incentives the following season.
Although he was a key cog in San Antonio's run to a championship in the 2014 NBA Finals and kept up his level of play the following season, Diaw saw his role decrease in 2015-16. He matched a career low in playing 18.2 minutes per contest, largely due to LaMarcus Aldridge's arrival.
