The Charlotte Bobcats Ben Gordon" target="_self">took the first step towards saving their franchise on Tuesday when they dealt Corey Maggette and a 2013 protected first round draft choice to the Detroit Pistons for sharpshooter Ben Gordon. The only question to ask at this point is simple: who got the better deal?

Although the trade may seem lopsided, the team who gave up the most is the team who gained the greatest.

The Charlotte Bobcats' greatest need in their sea of disappointment was that of a three-point shooter. They shot less than 30 percent from distance in 2012, the first time a team shot so low since 2003. While Ben Gordon is far from the player he once was, his sharpshooting and range are of incredible value to any team, especially if they know how to properly utilize his abilities.

While the full details of the deal have yet to be disclosed, it's likely that the Pistons have their pick lottery or top-10 protected. This enables the weak Bobcats team to grow as a unit, all the while landing a player to stretch the floor and potentially finding a solid first round draft choice.
