Bismack Biyombo Suspended: Latest Details, Comments and Reaction

The Toronto Raptors' Bismack Biyombo will miss the first game of next season as a result of a flagrant foul in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Per Jeff Zillgitt of USA Today, Biyombo's fourth flagrant foul point resulted in his being suspended without pay for the regular-season opener in 2016-17.

Biyombo earned a flagrant-1 foul during the game May 27 after he elbowed Cavaliers star Kevin Love in the face while attempting to clear out after a rebound.



Officials did go to the sidelines to look at the replay before making a final decision to issue Biyombo his fourth flagrant foul accrued during the NBA playoffs. League rules permit a maximum of three flagrant foul points before a player is hit with a suspension and fine.

NBA senior vice president of replay and referee operations Joe Borgia told NBA TV (via ESPN.com's Ohm Youngmisuk) why the play in question was sent to be reviewed: "We sort of teach officials, don't guess on plays. ... Biyombo has got that elbow extended, he comes around, and he makes significant contact to Love's face."
