Austin Rivers Injury: Updates on Clippers Guard’s Hand and Return

The Los Angeles Clippers' point guard depth has taken a hit, as backup Austin Rivers is out of the lineup with a hand injury.

Rivers Ruled Out Friday vs. Magic Friday, Feb. 5 Rivers' bruised left hand will keep him sidelined for Friday's game against the Orlando Magic, according to Ben Bolch of the Los Angeles Times.

Rivers was initially listed as questionable but was downgraded after attempting to give it a go during pregame warmups, per Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders:



Rivers has been quite a reliable backup to superstar Chris Paul but hasn't been a full-time starter since his rookie season in 2012-13 because of Paul’s presence—he played in all 82 games last year.

Yet Rivers' minutes and role have steadily increased since returning from a nasty ankle sprain in December—an encouraging sign after starting the season 14-of-68 (20.6 percent) on three-point shots. He's shooting 43.8 percent with 8.1 points per game, both career highs. He's also averaging 21.6 minutes, up by 2.3 per game from a year ago.
