Knicks Believe Afflalo Will Decline Contract Option

Ian Begley of ESPN reported Friday that new Knicks head coach Jeff Hornacek is expecting Afflalo to explore the free-agent market. Begley said in an interview with WFAN that the "general expectation" is the veteran guard will indeed opt out.
Afflalo averaged 12.8 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists while shooting 44 percent from the floor, including 38 percent from three-point range, during his first year in New York. The deal he signed with the Knicks last summer includes an $8 million player option for next season, according to Spotrac.
The 30-year-old UCLA product was moved to the bench in March, leading to a public disagreement with interim head coach Kurt Rambis. Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News noted Rambis said he told the guard about the "front office consensus" decision, but Afflalo denied he was alerted.
