2010 NBA Finals: Ranking Boston-L.A. Among the Greatest Rivalries Ever

I'm a rivalry snob. I'm that guy that doesn't believe you can call something a rivalry until there's some true competition among the teams or players. That's why if you'd talked to me about the Lakers and the Celtics in early 1985, I would not have even had the rivalry on a top 10 list. That changed when the Lakers did their Robin Soderling and finally broke the string of losses to Boston in the 1985 NBA Finals. People take their rivalries very seriously. The criteria for ranking a rivalry is almost as heated a discussion as the list itself. My reasoning is simple. I want some semblance of competitive balance and I want undying passion, the kind of hatred that gets passed down in last will and testaments. Somewhere in the middle of all that, you find a ranking.
