The NBA Champion Los Angeles Lakers had no first round draft picks, but still came up with a steal in last night's Draft.
With the 43rd overall pick, the Lakers took forward Devin Ebanks out of West Virginia. The pick came from Memphis as part of the Pau Gasol trade in 2008.
Ebanks had been projected as a first rounder and is another Laker General Manager Mitch Kupchak steal. The 6’9” Ebanks is known as a strong defender and rebounder. Having only played two years at West Virginia, the player has massive upside.
Coming from a solid college program like West Virginia, playing in the Big East, and having learned from a major college coach, Bobby Huggins, Ebanks has major potential to make the Lakers squad next year.
There is no downside with this pick for the Lakers, as it is not guaranteed that Ebanks could play a role on the Lakers if forward Luke Walton does not return to form with his injured back.
The Lakers also took forward Derrick Caracter with the 58th pick out of Texas El Paso. This is a stretch pick and right now, does not seem like Caracter is likely to make the squad.
