J.R. Smith: Latest News, Rumors, Speculation Surrounding Free-Agent Guard

Free-agent shooting guard J.R. Smith is still unsigned with just over a month remaining until the 2016-17 NBA regular season gets underway, and the situation could drag on into the start of the Cleveland Cavaliers' preparation for their title defense.

Smith Reportedly Poised to Skip Minicamp Monday, Sept. 19 Brian Windhorst of ESPN reported Smith will not attend the Cavaliers' minicamp this week "as he and the team remain at an impasse in contract talks."

Windhorst added that "no recent progress has been made in the talks," and Smith is "seeking a multiyear deal."

Estimated Value of Smith's Potential Contract Revealed Saturday, Sept. 17 Joe Vardon of Cleveland.com reported Smith's deal is expected to be worth around $15 million a year. 

Smith Comments on Contract Negotiations Friday, Sept. 16 In an interview with Complex's Adam Caparell, Smith said he hopes to re-sign with Cleveland soon but that the two sides have some things to work out.
