The Dallas Mavericks re-signed power forward Dwight Powell to a four-year deal worth $37-plus million on Sunday, according to Shams Charania of The Vertical.
The fourth year of Powell's deal features a player option, per Charania.
Dwain Price of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram added that the deal features a no-trade clause.
Powell, 24, averaged 5.8 points and 4.0 rebounds in 14.4 minutes per game for the Mavericks in the 2015-16 campaign, appearing in 69 total contests (two starts). His high motor, burgeoning skill and ability to crash the glass and make an impact as a rebounder made him a popular target in free agency.
It also threatened to price him out of the Mavericks' budget, especially considering there are still questions about just how high Powell's ceiling is, whether he'll ever develop a post-up game and if his less than physical style of play will hamper him in the long run.
Ultimately, however, Dallas decided that his potential upside was worth keeping in the organization.
