The San Jose Sharks will play for the Stanley Cup for the first time in their 25-year franchise history.
The Sharks punched their ticket to the Stanley Cup Final with a dominating 5-2 win over the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday night at SAP Center.
With the edge in the series after a 6-3 win in St. Louis on Monday, the Sharks took control of the game early, outshooting the Blues 9-5 in the opening frame and taking a 1-0 lead when Joe Pavelski was able to clean up a Joe Thornton breakaway just 3:57 into the game.
Joel Ward then added a pair of goals—his fifth and sixth of the playoffs—before Joonas Donskoi added an insurance marker to put his team up 4-0 with 11:49 to play.
Vladimir Tarasenko of the Blues made it interesting, scoring his first two goals of the series in the dying minutes, but Logan Couture added an empty-netter for his eighth goal of the playoffs to send San Jose to a place that it has never been before, as Western Conference Champions.
