Kings Ask 76ers About Swapping Picks After Philadelphia Wins NBA Draft Lottery

For the longest time, the Sacramento Kings had to worry about the Philadelphia 76ers invoking the right to swap draft picks.

In a funny turn of events, it's the Kings who are now hoping that a pick swap does indeed happen—because the 76ers won the NBA draft lottery.

Philadelphia and Sacramento were involved in a trade last summer that featured multiple players—including guard Nik Stauskas—and draft picks. In the deal, the Sixers acquired the right to swap first-round picks with the Kings in both the 2016 and 2017 drafts.

Depending on how the lottery played out, Philadelphia could have moved up in the draft by exercising its right to swap picks. As we learned on Tuesday night, that won't be necessary.

Sacramento wound up with the No. 8 pick, meaning Philadelphia is not interested in swapping picks. Moments later, it was announced that the 76ers had won the first overall pick. That had the Kings reminding the Sixers that they were allowed to switch spots:

Sorry, Kings. The Sixers are not interested:

Well played.
