Flyers Goalie Steve Mason Surrenders Embarrassing Goal vs. Capitals

Mistakes are magnified in the playoffs, so if a team wants to win the Stanley Cup, it needs to keep errors to a minimum.

Especially when they are easily preventable.

In the opening minutes of the second period in Saturday's Game 2 against the Washington Capitals, Philadelphia Flyers goalie Steve Mason surrendered the type of goal no netminder wants to be victimized by.

Washington's Jason Chimera—from just beyond center ice—got a stick on the puck just before he got hit. Little did he know, he would be celebrating a goal when he got up from the ice because the chip-in somehow trickled through Mason's five-hole.

Just like that, 2-0 Capitals.

This is how the teams' Twitter accounts reacted to the bizarre goal:

Philadelphia did not recover from Mason's blunder. The Flyers cut their deficit to one goal midway through the second period but lost 4-1 to go down 2-0 in the series.
