Gregg Popovich Calls Spurs’ Home Winning Streak ‘Absolutely Meaningless’

The San Antonio Spurs—who have won 48 consecutive regular-season games at the AT&T Center—are just two wins away from becoming the first team in NBA history to go 41-0 at home in a season. It's a feat that should get even Spurs coach Gregg Popovich excited, right?

Wrong.

Popovich could not care less about running the table at home. On Friday night in Denver, the 67-year-old made it clear that a potential perfect regular season at home is "absolutely meaningless," per Pat Graham of the Associated Press (via the News & Observer):

What does that get you if you're defeated? Does it win you anything? That's why it's meaningless. Maybe a cup of coffee or something. But that's about it.

Some may find the stance odd, but it's classic Popovich.

The five-time NBA champion knows that setting the record does not win a team a title. For that reason, the Golden State Warriors have had to weigh the pros and cons of going after the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls' single-season wins record of 72-10 versus resting players for the postseason.
