A late goal from Brad Richards with one minute remaining allowed the Detroit Red Wings to play spoiler at Saturday's NHL Stadium Series event in Denver as they beat the Colorado Avalanche 5-3.

Though the unseasonably warm temperatures made for the balmiest Stadium Series yet in NHL history, weather still impacts the game as the Rocky Mountain wind kicked up late in the second period.

As one would expect from two longtime rivals, both battling for playoff spots, the game was tightly fought.

After Tomas Tatar took gave Detroit an early 1-0 lead in the first period, the Avalanche battled back on goals from Nathan MacKinnon and Tyson Barrie and would hold the lead until the third period.

When Justin Abdelkader put the Red Wings up 3-2 at the 13:28 mark of the third, veteran Alex Tanguay answered back to re-tie the game just 14 seconds later, but "Mr. Outdoors" Brad Richards earned the two points for his team when he bounced the game-winner off goaltender Semyon Varlamov with a minute to go.
