The conference semifinal series in the West are both over, but there's still plenty of work to be done in the East.
The Anaheim Ducks finished off the Calgary Flames 3-2 in overtime Sunday night when Corey Perry scored in the extra session on a goalmouth scramble. That allowed the powerful Ducks to end the Flames' season by defeating them in five games.
The Ducks have won eight of their nine playoff games, and they appear to be in top form. They will need to be, since they will face the Chicago Blackhawks in the Western Conference Final. The Blackhawks swept the Minnesota Wild in a series that ended May 7.
The New York Rangers extended their series with the Washington Capitals to seven games after surviving a Washington rally and registering a 4-3 victory in Game 6. The Rangers jumped to a 4-1 lead Sunday night at Washington, but goals by Evgeny Kuznetsov and Joel Ward allowed the homestanding Caps to get close; however, goalie Henrik Lundqvist prevented any further damage.
