Montreal 6, Tampa Bay 2 (Tampa Bay leads series 3-1)
The Montreal Canadiens fended off elimination with a blowout victory in Game 4 of their Eastern Conference semifinal series with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Andrei Markov opened the scoring two minutes and 45 seconds into the game on a shot from the left side of the ice. Max Pacioretty padded the Montreal lead in the first with a short-handed goal six minutes later.
Montreal continued its offensive onslaught in the second period, as it put three goals past two different Lightning goalies.
David Desharnais netted the third goal of the game after the puck deflected off the glove of Ben Bishop. After his miscue on the third Montreal goal, Bishop was pulled in favor of Andrei Vasilevskiy.
The Canadiens extended their lead to five on two goals in a 15-second span from Jeff Petry and Brendan Gallagher. Petry's second of the playoffs came on the power play.
Nikita Kucherov finally put the Lightning on the board through a power play goal in the second, but by that time in the contest, it was too little too late.
