Washington 1, New York 0 (Washington leads series 2-1)

The Washington Capitals earned a slim lead in their Eastern Conference semifinal series with the New York Rangers by the slimmest of margins on Monday night.

Jay Beagle scored the lone goal of the 1-0 victory at the Verizon Center seven minutes into the second period.

Beagle picked up a rebound created by New York's Henrik Lundqvist, wrapped around the net and pushed a shot off Keith Yandle and Lundqvist before the puck landed in the back of the net.

The rest of the game featured a frantic pace on both ends of the ice, but the Rangers were unable to put any of their 30 shots past Braden Holtby.

The loss marked the first time since April 23, 1992 that the Rangers lost a Game 3 in the playoffs on the road, per Sportsnet.

Washington and New York will meet again in Game 4 on Wednesday night in Washington, D.C.
