Detroit Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard suffered an apparent lower-body injury on Monday night, per Mike Halford of NBC Sports. If he is out of action for an extended period, it will impact both the Red Wings and the U.S. Olympic hockey team.

Per Ansar Khan of MLive.com, Howard's return was ruled out after the second intermission during Detroit's battle with the St. Louis Blues.



Khan later tweeted that Howard was favoring his knee, but according to Red Wings color analyst Mickey Redmond, Howard may have just fallen ill.



After the game, Khan provided an update on Howard:



Red Wings fans and the national hockey team hope he has simply caught a bug. If the most recent injury is related to the MCL sprain he suffered in December, as reported by Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News, it could lead to a shuffle in both teams' lineups.
