Alex Ovechkin wasn't going to go quietly into the good night after his Washington Capitals were blown out, 5-0, in Game 7 versus the New York Rangers Monday night.
The Capitals had a 3-2 series lead going into Game 6 on Sunday, but the 1-0 loss prompted Game 7.
Said Ovechkin, after the loss (via Slava Malamud of the Sports-Express):
The 27-year-old star wasn't just blaming the refs, though.
When asked to describe what happened in one word, Ovechkin replied (via Dmitry Chesnokov of Yahoo! Sports):
It certainly was a series to forget for Ovechkin. After compiling 56 points (32 goals, 24 assists) during the regular season, he managed two points in the first two games against the Rangers, then was shut out for the rest of the series. And to cap it all off, he was shut out at the Verizon Center to end the season.
