During the pregame skate before Saturday's matchup with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Boston Bruins players donned baseball hats honoring all of the branches of police and military that were integral in capturing the Boston Marathon bombing suspect in Watertown, MA, on Friday night.
But that was just the beginning.
During the pregame ceremonies at the TD Garden, an in-arena tribute became a celebration of the city of Boston and the end of the horrors that unfolded throughout the week. That was followed by another rousing rendition of the national anthem sung by the tight-knit fans assembled.
The tribute before the Sabres game earlier this week was excellent but remained somber, while this national anthem and ceremony had much more of a festive flare. Regardless, there wasn't a dry eye in the building.
The two teams were supposed to play Friday night, but the game was canceled due to the ongoing manhunt for suspect No. 2 in Watertown, MA, who was later apprehended.
