Russell Westbrook's new All-Star Game kicks may look completely ridiculous, but remember, they're for a good cause.
The Oklahoma City Thunder guard is using his gaudy shoes—which resemble a pair of fancy Italian boots on LSD—to promote his Why Not? Foundation.
Last November, Westbrook went back home to Los Angeles to participate in his organization's kickoff event, a Thanksgiving feast that helped feed 400 people in his old South Central neighborhood. And now, he's sporting kicks with the slogan and name of his foundation prominently featured in bold lettering.
If part of building momentum for a charity requires raising awareness, consider that aspect of the job complete. It'll be impossible for anyone to ignore Westbrook's orange and blue sneakers. I mean, these things have full-length zippers and everything.
Talk about a showstopping shoe!
For Westbrook, fashion-forward thinking has been a constant. Remember, this is the guy who popularized the thick-framed glasses (usually without any lenses) and technicolor shirts among NBA players. He's a trailblazer.
