Kris Letang Injury: Updates on Penguins Defenseman’s Status

Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Kris Letang is set to miss his second straight game Saturday against the New Jersey Devils with an undisclosed injury, according to Shelly Anderson of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

The star defenseman was held out of practice on Thursday and did not play that night against Washington.

The Penguins are not saying what's wrong with Letang. All they are willing to divulge is that he's day-to-day.

The 25-year-old has three goals and six assists so far this season, along with a plus-four rating. Last season, Letang scored 10 goals and added 32 assists in only 51 games. 

It is not yet clear what the extent of the injury is or whether Letang is expected to miss a significant amount of time. 

If he does, expect Dylan Reese, who was called up from the AHL's Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to replace Letang, to stay with the big club.

Letang is critical to the team's third-ranked power play. The team did, however, score three power-play goals on Thursday without him.
