Boston Bruins in Switzerland: Patrice Bergeron Returns from Injury

Patrice Bergeron returned to the ice today in Switzerland for HC Lugano after missing the team's last two games with an upper-body injury.

The injury came to light when Bergeron missed last week's game against the Kloten Flyers. He then missed the following game against HC Davos, after being listed as questionable. Bergeron was severely missed in the 6-5 loss to a Davos team, that featured Rick Nash and former Bruin Joe Thornton.

Bergeron has a history of upper body injuries, having played through the 2012 NHL playoffs with a torn oblique. The injury was especially troubling as Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask suffered a groin injury just two days earlier, from which he has since recovered.

As the NHL lockout continues, the durability of stars playing in Europe will become a major story. Luckily for the Bruins, Bergeron's excellent performance today proves that his injury is nothing to worry about and that last week's rest was purely precautionary.
