There's always a buzz in San Jose when the Sharks are in town, but when the winged wheel comes visiting, emotions and expectations run just a bit higher. Tonight the Sharks and Red Wings met for the fourth and final time this season, setting the tone for a possible precursor of a heated playoff battle.

The Sharks skated well and played what possibly could have been their best positional hockey of the season to take their eighth consecutive victory of the year, a season high.

San Jose is hosting their longest home stand this season in the month March. After just slipping by with a much-needed two points against the Avalanche on Tuesday, the Sharks found themselves on a seven-game winning streak, their longest of the season.

With a home record of 18-10-3 and a 8-2-0 record in their last ten games they looked to close the season series against the Red Wings, who were playing their third game in four nights, with a victory. Sharks goalie Antti Niemi has been on a tear as of late with 20 straight starts and wins in 18 of them.
