Detroit Red Wings versus Chicago Blackhawks rivalry has always been one of the greatest rivalries in all of hockey.
Both the Red Wings and Blackhawks were apart of the Original Six.
Both teams opened up shop in the NHL in the 1926 season. The Detroit franchise was than known Cougars, than changed their names to the "Falcons" in 1930 than finally made a final change to the "Red Wings" in 1932.
The Chicago franchise has always been known as the Blackhawks with only a minor change to the name coming in 1986 from "Black Hawks" to "Blackhawks".
The Blackhawks won their first Stanley Cup in 1933-34 after finishing seven points behind the Detroit Red Wings for first place in the then known "American Division". Chicago went on to beat the Wings in the Stanley Cup final winning three games to one.
Detroit finally became the best in the NHL two seasons after Chicago's Cup win. Detroit once again won the American Division and topped the Toronto Maple Leafs three games to one themselves to hoist their first ever Stanley Cup.
Detroit was the lucky of the two teams to win their second Stanley Cup when Detroit won in 1936-37. ...
