Another One May Bite The Dust: NHL Investigating Marian Hossa’s Contract

The NHL world has reported this morning that they will be investigating the contracts of players such as, Chris Pronger, Roberto Luongo and Marian Hossa.

With this considered, the Chicago Blackhawks may lose another player. Not just any player this time though, a player Scott Bowman has considered to be a part of the teams’ core.

On July 1, 2009, Hossa signed a 12-year contract with the Chicago Blackhawks worth $62.8 million. The contract is front-loaded with $59.3 million due in the first eight years for an average cap hit of $5.2 million per season.

Now this ongoing investigation may cause a huge change once again for the Chicago Blackhawks.

For Hossa and the Blackhawks, this means his contract is now under review by the NHL to see if they could get the same ruling the arbitrator gave on Ilya Kovalchuk's contract to apply to Marian Hossa's deal, as well as other NHL stars with front-loaded contracts. 

If the same happens for those contracts, the player's contracts are automatically voided and the team who signed the deal possibly can be hit with a $5 million fine and forfeiture of draft picks ...
