Could Magic Summer League Player Paul Davis Replace Marcin Gortat Next Season?

I always liked what I saw in Paul Davis, as I watched a lot of Clipper games, serving as an analyst for Fan Huddle.  They always say, "You can't teach size," and Paul Davis definitely fulfills this dictum.

He has seen limited minutes so far in his career, but when he saw an opportunity, he seized it.

In 2008, against Sacramento, Davis scored 18 points, grabbed five rebounds, and also recorded three assists and three steals.  He played a career-high 38 minutes that night.  The only other night he saw more than 20 minutes was in a 103-81 loss to the Spurs.  That night, playing mostly garbage minutes, Davis scored 15 points and had 6 rebounds to go along with an assist and a steal.

With those flashes serving as proof, I think Paul Davis has a future in the NBA as a backup center.  He reminds me a lot of Hornets center Aaron Gray, and should eventually play to that level.  Both have the gift of huge bodies that serve them well in combating the bigger players in the game.
