Well, now, isn't that Mark Scheifele kid some kind of cheeky? I mean, you probably thought you had his future all mapped out when you claimed him with your first pick at the National Hockey League garage sale in June.

The Scheifele script likely went something like this: Draft him, bring him to the rookie camp where he'll stand out playing against kids his own age, bring him to the big camp, let him play a handful of games with and against men, then send him back to the Barrie Colts for some seasoning and growth.

And that made sense. The kid, after all, is greener than St. Patty's Day.

So what does he do? He leads your team in scoring with four goals and eight points in five NHL pre-season skirmishes. He displays immense skills, with gusts up to jaw-dropping. He looks poised, polished and shows considerable hockey smarts. He becomes a fan favorite.

The nerve of the kid. What a brat. He didn't follow the script at all.

And now it's time to fish or cut bait. There are no more dress rehearsals. You'll be playing with live ammunition when the Montreal Canadiens show ...
