Ryan Malone Arrested on DUI, Cocaine Possession Charges

A trying season for Tampa Bay Lightning forward Ryan Malone got even worse Saturday morning as the 34-year-old was arrested on charges of driving under the influence and cocaine possession.



According to Damian Cristodero of the Tampa Bay Times, the arrest occurred at 5:40 a.m. ET in Tampa. It remains to be seen how this will impact Malone's playoff status, but Lightning general manager Steve Yzerman released a statement regarding the incident.

"We are aware of the situation concerning Ryan Malone this morning," Yzerman said. "Ryan will not travel with the team to Washington today, but beyond that we cannot comment further at this time."

NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly added, per CBS Sports' Chris Peters: 

We are aware of the situation this morning involving Tampa Bay Lightning forward Ryan Malone. Under the terms of the collectively bargained joint NHL/NHLPA Substance Abuse and Behavioral Health Program, Mr. Malone is subject to mandatory evaluation and, if deemed necessary by the Program Doctors, treatment pursuant to the terms of that Program.
