Ryan Callahan Injury: Updates on Lightning RW Recovery from Appendectomy Surgery

Tampa Bay Lightning right winger Ryan Callahan is out indefinitely following emergency appendectomy surgery.

Callahan Out Indefinitely After Surgery Tuesday, May 12 Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune noted that Callahan had the surgery Monday night and is out indefinitely. Although Callahan stayed overnight for observation, he was released Tuesday morning, per Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times.

Head coach Jon Cooper spoke about Callahan's status after surgery, saying the winger is "feeling really good" after the procedure, via Stephen Whyno of the Canadian Press. Cooper went on to say Callahan is "extremely doubtful" for tonight's Game 6 matchup versus Montreal, via Smith. Cooper went on to tell Smith he believed Callahan's return timetable is a matter of days, not weeks.

Callahan was a critical part of the Lightning offense all season and finished with 24 goals and 30 assists for 54 points. While he has yet to break through with a goal in the postseason, he has appeared in all 12 of his team’s games and has three assists.
