Peter Mueller Signs New Two-Year Deal With Colorado Avalanche

Media sources in Denver are reporting on Friday afternoon that Peter Mueller has signed a two-year, $4 million deal with the Avalanche. He’ll make $1.5 million this season and $2.5 million in 2011-12

Mueller, 22, burst onto the scene with a strong rookie campaign with the Phoenix Coyotes in 2007-08, posting 54 points (22 goals, 32 assists). Of those points, 22 (seven goals, 15 assists) were on the power play, and expectations were through the roof.

However, Mueller experienced a sophomore slump in 2008-09, scoring just 36 points (12 goals, 24 assists). When it started to become clear that he wanted a bigger, long-term contract based on his rookie production, and considering the financial state of affairs in Phoenix, there was doubt he would finish the 2009-10 season, and his contract, with the Coyotes.

The Avs acquired Mueller in a trade that sent Wojtek Wolski to Phoenix last spring. The trade worked out well for both sides, as both advanced in the playoffs and Mueller was productive in Denver. He posted 20 points (five goals, 15 assists) in 15 games for the Avs after the deal.
