No Need for Philadelphia Flyers to Sign Old Shane Doan

Sam Carchidi recently reported on Philly.com that the Philadelphia Flyers have interest in free agent winger Shane Doan.

Bleacher Report Featured Columnist Ian Hanford speculated the chances were slim, but if given the opportunity, the Flyers should sign Doan.

Doan is respected around the league, and once he announced he would begin listening to free agent offers from teams other than the Phoenix Coyotes, most of the league began pursuing the 35-year-old, two-way forward.  

Doan, who will turn 36 in October, is known as a gritty, tough forward capable of scoring 20 goals and bringing a physical presence to the ice.  

While Doan did dish out 205 hits and net 22 goals in 2011-12, his defensive presence may be a bit overrated, as his minus-eight rating on a team with a plus-12 goal differential suggests.  

Also, Doan fired 226 shots, missed 109 more and managed 22 goals.  

The only Flyers who took more shots on net than Doan last season were Scott Hartnell (232) and Claude Giroux (242), and both scored at a much higher rate (11.6 percent and 15.9 percent, respectively).
