NHL Predictions: Boston Bruins 2011-12 Odds and Betting Outlook

The last time we saw the Bruins play, they were causing the citizens of Vancouver to burn their city to the ground. Now, for the first time since 1972, they enter the season as the defending champions, and they’ll wear a target on their backs as a result.

Last year obviously couldn’t have gone better, and their core is largely intact to start this year, so there is no reason to think that they won’t be an elite contender again this year.

One player who could be missed is Mark Recchi. The veteran was surprisingly effective last year—especially in the playoffs—and he provided outstanding leadership as well. If the team seems lost early in the season, then that could be an issue.

On the other end of the age spectrum is Tyler Seguin. The high-profile rookie was only mediocre during the season, but when given the chance to be a replacement player during the playoffs, he really excelled. That emergence could be an indicator of a big step forward this year.
