NHL 2011: What the Boston Bruins Could Do with $14 Million

It took 39 years, but it was well worth the wait. Any Boston Bruins fan will tell you that it was an emotional ride to the end of Game 7 in Vancouver, starting with the seven game series against Montreal.

On December 1, 2010 Savard inked a deal with Boston worth $28.05 million, which is about $4.2 million per season. The deal is spread out into $14 million the first two years and $14 million for the remaining five.

Savard was injured in the Bruins' Jan. 22, game against the Colorado Avalanche, when he was cross checked into the end board glass by Matt Hunwick, a former teammate. On February 8, 2011, the Bruins opted to shut Savard down for the season after he received his second concussion in 10 months.

With Savard questionable for his return to the Bruins, not to mention the NHL, Boston could be looking at $14 million to spend on a reliable replacement.

They may even opt to go the other way and get another offensively talented defenseman. Whatever GM Peter Chiarelli and President Cam Neely decide to do, I'm sure it will only help the defending Stanley Cup Champions achieve their goal.
