New York Islanders: Blake Comeau Waived, Claimed by Calgary Flames

The New York Islanders waived forward Blake Comeau on Thursday after he played in 16 games this season without registering a single point. Comeau was then claimed by the Calgary Flames on Friday.

Rumors were going around that the Islanders were shopping Comeau after his bad start to the season. After the team could not find a trading partner, they decided to place the forward on waivers, which led to him being claimed on Friday.

It's been a down season for Comeau. The 25-year-old, who the Isles drafted in the second round of the 2004 draft, signed a one-year contract with the team this past offseason after having a 24-goal season in 2010-11. He was not able to put up even a single point this season.

This move now allows the Isles to give more playing time to rookie Nino Niederreiter, who has been scratched for two games so far this season. The Isles, who are on a three-game losing streak, look to rebound on Friday against the New Jersey Devils.
