New Jersey Devils Buzz: Tuesday, August 10th

Here are the latest news bits and rumors surrounding the New Jersey Devils.

As you all know, Ilya Kovalchuk’s contract was denied.

The New Jersey Devils and the Kovalchuk camp have already started working on another contract. Based on what I am hearing, Kovalchuk will remain a Devil; however, there is a problem with that. Any restructured contract will likely have a higher cap hit, which means the Devils may have to move an extra body (likely Rolston, Salvador, or White).

Defenseman Mike Mottau is still available. He hopes to return to the Devils and unless a massive contract comes his way, he will wait to see what LL is going to do, as he hopes to return to New Jersey.

Aside from Kovalchuk and Mottau, don’t expect the Devils to sign another player from free agency, as they will look within their system to fill the vacant roster spots. Look for players like Alex Urbom, Mattias Tedenby, Jacob Josefson, and Adam Henrique to push hard for a spot on the team.
