Babcock Given Permission to Speak with Other Teams Friday, May 8 After 10 years at the helm in the Motor City, Babcock is set to speak with other teams before determining if he wants to remain with the Red Wings.

According to TSN's Bob McKenzie, the 52-year-old native of Manitouwadge, Ontario, Canada, has been given clearance to do so by the Red Wings' front office:



Babcock has been one of the most successful bench bosses in hockey over the years, with a career winning percentage of .629 over a decade with the Red Wings and two years with the Anaheim Ducks.

He has never missed the playoffs during his tenure in Detroit, and he won the first and only Stanley Cup of his career in 2008. 

Though the Wings made the postseason once again this year and nearly eliminated the Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round, Babcock wants to play the field.
