Ducks vs. Capitals Postponed Due to Inclement Weather

The National Hockey League announced Friday's game between the Washington Capitals and the Anaheim Ducks has been postponed due to a winter storm hitting the East Coast of the United States.

Greg Wyshynski of Yahoo Sports passed along a statement from the league, which noted the makeup date will be announced at a later time. The release also provided an outlook for a decision on the Caps' next home game:



The NHL previously moved the game up a couple of hours on Thursday to 5 p.m. ET with the hope of sneaking it in before the brunt of the winter storm arrived, per Isabelle Khurshudyan of the Washington Post.

Mark Knoller of CBS News reported D.C. officials made a public plea for the game to get postponed, however, as they hoped everybody would stay in place starting at 3 p.m. ET.

From the NHL's perspective, trying to get the game in made sense because it's more difficult to find a place in the schedule to have a West Coast team come back East for an extra game. But public safety is always the top priority, and it won out in the end.
