Detroit Red Wings: Despite Minus Rating, Nick Lidstrom Will Win Norris Trophy

This year has been an up-and-down one for the Detroit Red Wings.

Despite clinching the Central Division and their 20th straight playoff appearance, the Wings have once again experienced an injury-plagued season and inconsistency that has led them to some ridiculous losses and horrific wins.

But in a season filled with all that, adding a lopsided 10-3 loss to a mediocre St. Louis Blues team, one thing overshadows it all (by the way, that was the first time the Wings allowed 10 goals in a game since 1993 in LA and the first time at home to Edmonton).

The one stat line that overshadows the ups-and-downs of the Detroit Red Wings is the little negative sign right beside Nicklas Lidstrom's name.

Coming into this season, after posting 49 points last season, everyone expected Lidstrom to stick around that number or maybe fall off a bit.

He didn't.

All year, Lidstrom has defied the odds and posted some shocking numbers.

He has already set the single-season mark for points in a season set by a 40-plus-year-old defenseman.

He has been the most consistent Red Wing on the roster.
