Derek Stepan Injury: Updates on Rangers Star’s Lower Body and Return

Since returning from an injury that cost him the first 12 games of the NHL season, Derek Stepan has been excellent for the New York Rangers. But now the star forward could potentially be out of action for a prolonged period again after suffering an injury.

The Rangers tweeted the following update during the team's game against the New York Islanders on Tuesday night:

After the game the team provided an update:

Stepan has been on a torrid pace this season, with six goals and 21 assists (second on the team) in 27 games, reaffirming his place as one of the best table-setters in the league. He's also notched an impressive plus-10 and has been a huge part of a red-hot Rangers team that has won 13 of their last 15 games.

If Stepan's injury is indeed serious, it would be a huge blow for a New York team that is currently barely holding onto a Wild Card place. The Rangers were a middling 6-4-2 without him, so right now the entire organization is hoping any injury is a short-term one.
