Derek Stepan Injury: Updates on Rangers Center’s Ribs and Return

New York Rangers center Derek Stepan broke two ribs during the team's contest against the Boston Bruins on Nov. 27. It is uncertain exactly when he will be able to return to the ice.

Stepan's Recovery Timeline Revealed Monday, Nov. 30 Rangers head coach Alain Vigneault announced that Stepan would miss four to six weeks after breaking his ribs.

Stepan, 25, has notched six goals and six assists in 23 games for the Rangers this season. He scored 16 or more goals for the Rangers in his first five seasons in the league.

The Rangers will likely call up a young player like Tanner Glass, Ryan Bourque, Jayson Megna or Adam Tambellini to take Stepan's roster spot. J.T. Miller, Derick Brassard and Mats Zuccarello will likely comprise the team's top line, as they did on Saturday in a loss to the Philadelphia Flyers, while Rick Nash, Chris Kreider and Kevin Hayes will make up the second. 

The injury couldn't come at a worse time for the Rangers, however, as the team has lost three straight games and four of its last six contests.
