The Chicago Blackhawks advanced to their third Stanley Cup Final in the past five seasons with a 5-3 win over the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday night at the Honda Center.
The Blackhawks will face the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Stanley Cup Final, which begins Wednesday night in Tampa at the Amalie Arena.
Jonathan Toews set the tone early in the first period with a pair of goals, including one on the power play, to give Chicago a two-goal lead after 20 minutes and silence the crowd.
Brandon Saad buried a shot into a wide-open net early in the second period to extend the advantage, and Marian Hossa joined him on a controversial goal with just about 14 minutes gone in the frame.
The puck connected with a streaking Hossa’s skate off a rebound in front and past Ducks’ netminder Frederik Andersen in what seemed on replay to be a kicking motion.
But with extended leeway granted on those calls last offseason, the referees ruled no clear kicking motion could be established and allowed the goal to stand.
