According to Blueland Blog, the Atlanta Thrashers sixth-round pick in 2005, Andrei Zubarev, has signed a two year entry level contract worth $625K per year.

Zubarev, a 23-year-old defenseman, seems pretty excited to make the jump to North America.

“It’s my dream. I always wanted to play in the NHL so it was not a hard decision. I wanted to come here two years ago but I had a contract in Russia. Now that contract is finished so I am here finally. I’m excited to be here.”

He assures the Thrashers faithful that he will stay in North America even if he has to play in the AHL.

“It is all up to the coaches. It is their decision. If they say go the AHL I will go, but my dream is to play in the NHL. I will do what they say so I can play in the NHL.”

Zubarev spent the last six years of his career playing in Russia. Expect Zubarev to turn some heads in training camp.
