Shaquille O’Neal Going To Boston Celtics, Can They Compete With Heat?

Rumors of Shaquille O'Neal joining the Celtics will soon become reality, as the two sides are close to agreeing on a deal for the veteran's minimum of $1.4 million annually. It is unknown how long the deal is for at this time.

With the arrival of Shaq in Boston, he will battle with Jermaine O'Neal for playing time at center. The Celtics will have much more depth in their center and power forward position now with the two O'Neals, Glen "Big Baby" Davis, and Kendrick Perkins when he returns from injury.

Shaq will most likely be a bench player because of his age, and he will hopefully take it well unlike Allen Iverson. This move will hopefully give Boston more depth if they make the playoffs against teams like Orlando and Miami, who have good inside games.

Last season Shaq averaged 12.0 points, 6.7 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.2 blocks per game. Those stats are pretty good, but if he wants playing time on this good and deep team, he must be able to score more and play tough defense like he did for the Lakers.
