Popovich Becomes 2nd Coach to Win 1,000 Games with 1 Team

San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich earned the 1,000th regular-season win of his career with Monday's 95-93 victory over the Indiana Pacers, joining Jerry Sloan as the only coaches to win 1,000 or more games with one franchise, per ESPN.com.

Popovich has never been the head coach for any other team, while Sloan earned 1,127 of his 1,221 regular-season coaching victories for the Utah Jazz.

Assuming he wants to stick around, Popovich can probably pass Sloan's single-team record, either late in the 2016-17 season or at some point in 2017-18.

Only nine NBA coaches have won 1,000 games, and Popovich is third-fastest of the bunch to reach that mark, having done so in just 1,462 games, per NBA.com/Stats. Phil Jackson unsurprisingly holds the record of 1,423 games, followed by Pat Riley at 1,434.

Riley had some rough seasons with the Miami Heat toward the end of his coaching career, so Popovich's win percentage of .684 trails only Phil Jackson's .704 mark among coaches with 1,000 wins, per ESPN Stats & Info.
