Houston Rockets point guard Patrick Beverley left Friday's game against the Denver Nuggets after suffering a sprained ankle. It's unclear when he'll return to the court.

Beverley Injury Has Major Impact on Rockets Defense After signing a new four-year, $25 million contract in the summer, Beverley moved to the bench when the Rockets traded for Ty Lawson. So far, neither Lawson nor Beverley has played well this season.

Losing Beverley is a huge blow for Houston. Although he doesn't contribute much scoring, with 5.5 points per game this year, defense has always been Beverley's calling card. With him out, the Rockets will not only be lacking a true backup point guard, but they will also lose a reliable perimeter defender in crunch time.

The Rockets may need to turn to the seldom-used Jason Terry to fill the void moving forward.
