The Houston Rockets pulled out a huge 118-110 victory against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday afternoon. James Harden led Houston with 41 points and nine assists.

It was a close contest throughout, with 13 lead changes and 10 ties. Both teams seemed fired up for the game, but it was Harden's Rockets who seemed to be playing with a tad more edge. Youngsters Clint Capela and K.J. McDaniels received more minutes than usual, and both were key to establishing the team's intensity.

Kevin Durant led Oklahoma City with 33 points and eight rebounds, and Russell Westbrook had 23 points, 13 rebounds and nine assists, but neither consistently came through with baskets or stops in the fourth quarter. Houston had 38 points in the final frame, compared to 28 for the Thunder.

The Rockets, now 38-39, badly needed this win to keep pace in the Western Conference playoff hunt. They're still in ninth place, but they're only a half-game behind the eighth-seeded Utah Jazz and have an easy closing schedule. Houston returns to action Wednesday at the Dallas Mavericks, a West rival just one game ahead of it.
