New Orleans Hornets Reportedly Changing Name to Much More Hilarious "Pelicans"

Because the New Orleans Hornets have very little regard for their fans, they will reportedly change their name to the New Orleans Pelicans. 

I guess the birds that make beach lounging such a treat are the perfect way to symbolize a basketball franchise. 

Yahoo! Sports cites a source who reports the nickname switch could take place as early as the 2013-2014 season. Hornets fans, start digging a hole big enough to stick your head in accordingly. 

The change was expected as new ownership took over this past April. Still, we would have hoped the name wouldn't also have to come with a warning not to bully any player employed by the future Pelicans. 

I guess owner Tom Benson is just a fan of fictional 1950's street gang names. Was T-Birds taken?

The report gives us some insight as to what kind of Popsicle stand they are running over there. 

The Hornets also considered the nicknames Krewe (groups of costumed paraders in the annual Mardi Gras carnival in New Orleans) and Brass.
