Lance Stephenson suffered a groin injury that will require surgery, and the New Orleans Pelicans have waived him as a result. It is uncertain when he will return to action, though he is expected to miss multiple weeks.

Pelicans Waive Stephenson, Matt Barnes Responds in NSFW Post Monday, Nov. 7 The Pelicans announced they waived Stephenson after The Vertical's Shams Charania, citing league sources, reported on Sunday that the Pelicans would do so in order to sign Archie Goodwin following Stephenson's injury.

ESPN.com's Marc Stein reported on Monday, "New Orleans didn't want to waive [Stephenson], but saw no alternative with 11 healthy players and no sure path to an injury exception."

Stein added, "The Pelicans, I'm told, have told [Stephenson] they will participate in his injury rehab in New Orleans or wherever he wishes to do it."
